Boots on the ground
Billed as a return to a skill-based FPS system, BATTALION 1944 takes heavy inspiration from older Call of Duty titles and Counter-Strike and combines them into something new. The game revolves around competitive online play with various modes including arcade, capture the flag and domination. Wartide, a mode where players drop weapons tokens for later routes, is reminiscent of CSGO and an obvious place for the planned e-sports expansion. The gameplay itself is tight and responsive with basic guns and no special perks like airdrops or damage boosts. In this regard, BATTALION 1944 certainly is based more around player skill than anything else. Actually playing, however, can be frustrating. Kills are generally decided within a split-second. This may be fine for competitive play but general audiences may well find their initial matches too much to handle.
BATTALION 1944 is a game with an explicit focus and audience. The "hardcore" experience stripped of any fancy perks could potentially become a huge e-sport title but first it needs a widespread fanbase.
